Upcoming Emergency Roof Repair
Effective December 7, the Boylston Library will be closed for inside services due to emergency roof work directed by the Library Board of Trustees.
Water damage is occurring at the base of the two chimney's around the original 1904 roof, requiring immediate attention. As some of you may remember, there was a major renovation phase in 2016 which did not include a roof replacement. This was planned to take place at a future date. With the high cost of materials due to COVID-19, the Trustees will wait to replace the roof while seeking the necessary funding to support that project. In the meantime, we will immediately address the emergency water damage needs by removing the chimneys. The current estimate to complete the work is three weeks.
While the building is closed for these essential repairs, staff will be working remotely to provide routine library services as well as our online resources. Front door pick-up of library materials will be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5-8pm to ensure that our patrons have access to any requested items. Hold requests from other libraries will continue to be delivered and made available during evening pick-up hours, and printing/faxing services will also be available. Requests may be placed as usual through online accounts or by contacting the library directly. Any residents who are unable to retrieve items during the evening hours may request home delivery. Our online programs will continue as scheduled, and staff will be available for all of your phone, email, and technical inquiries.
We appreciate your support as we endeavor to get the building back open as soon as possible, and we'll keep you updated with the progress. Don't hesitate to let us know how we can best serve you during this time.
